After two weeks of posturing and infinite rumormongoring, the Avs have made Nathan MacKinnon their first overall selection.

The right handed center out of the Halifax Mooseheads possesses great speed, a lethal shot and high-end skill. MacKinnon joins the Avs' impressive list of centers which include Matt Duchene, Ryan O'Reilly and Paul Stastny.

While many want Jones, who went fourth overall to new division rival Nashville Predators, the high-end potential of MacKinnon was just impossible to pass up.

“We are thrilled to be adding Nathan to our organization,” said Avalanche Director of Amateur Scouting Rick Pracey. “Nathan is a skilled forward with elite skating ability and speed. He plays an aggressive, attacking game and can elevate his game when his team needs it most.”

Stay tuned for more Avs news and updates as they come.
