When Husker fans count their blessings for their deep secondary, they rattle off a lot of names before they get to Austin Cassidy. But because of his body type, (he's listed at 6'1" and 210 lbs.) he's getting some attention as a good candidate to be the new hybrid linebacker/safety for the peso defense. Cassidy has seen action (mostly on special teams) in each of the past two seasons, but he could become a regular contributor to the defense in 2010.

There can be a bit of bias against walk-on players. When fans draw up their own depth charts, it's usually the walk-on players that are the last they list. But inevitably it seems a walk-on player that rises to a prominent role in the secondary. The most obvious example might be Matt O'Hanlon. But there are plenty more that you can name....
