ATL Lowdown: Mr. Carter

"Yo, this right here is crazy. I mean like I feel big. Not in a sense of weight or gaining weight or nothin', but big like colossal. Hey Mr. Carter, tell me where have you been? They been askin, they been searching, they been wonderin why...." - Lil Wayne

And I think it's safe to say Anthony Carter's game rocked flyer than Beatle Juice, Beatle Juice. Thanks again Mr. Carter.

Okay, here we go. First thing's first. The Knicks got a much needed win on the road this evening against the current fifth seed Atlanta Hawks. The Knicks were stagnant for a while and it was a back and forth, low scoring affair. Until, enter, Carter. In his 14 and a half minutes off the bench Carter came in and contributed 10 points, a huge steal and layup on the defensive end and kept the offense running smoothly. Carmelo Anthony couldn't hit the broad side of a barn on the evening, finishing with only 14 points. Amar'e Stoudemire was forced to shoulder yet another strong scoring load, finishing with 26 and draining numerous silky, smooth 15 footers. Aside from his performance in the middle, no one else was really being a consistent contributor.

After Carter nailed his first two jumpers, the big steal and layup in the third quarter really served as a jump start. After that play, in which Carter read Jeff Teague like a novel, the Knicks seemed to have some new found confidence. Shawne Williams started banging home threes. Toney Douglas was more agressive and netted two consecutive layups. Stoudemire kept being Stoudemire. Landry Fields then hit a big three and Roger Mason Jr. swished home a long two pointer from the corner.

It was these events due to Carter's resilience that totally deflated a once competitive Hawks ball club. It was an excellent turn of events to witness because it was an overall team win. The defense was so-so as usual and the offensve was less than effective until late in the third. But with the veteran Carter stepping in alongside Toney Douglas in the absence of Chauncey Billups, the Knicks got it done and now face Utah tomorrow night at the Garden.

Peace Up, Threes Down!
