Is there anything not to like about Tony Gaffney? If there is, I have yet to find it. This kid is perfect for this Boston Celtics squad in every way possible, yet when it comes down to it his chance of making the final roster cut is very slim.
Tony Gaffney is just one of those people you HAVE to root for in life; no if's, and, but's about it. If you're a Celtics fan, you are either a) rooting for Gaffney or b) rooting for Gaffney. Tony is a hometown kid, an admirer of Red Auerbach, and a life-long Celtics fan. Not to mention, he is one hell of a hard worker.
Today, Tony gained even more respect from Celtics fans by dropping the following quote (courtesy of Chris Forsberg):
I love the excitement coming from Tony but, to be quite frank, I don't see him getting his shot this time around. You gotta' love what you saw in Summer League from this kid, but this team simply has too much talent already in place.
Who's going to be let go to make room for Tony? Von Wafer? Delonte West? I just can't see it happening. Would I like to see it happen? For sure. I'd get rid of Semih Erden in a heartbeat to see Gaffney get a shot at living his dream. With the way the players contracts are constructed, though, it is very doubtful that Gaffney will be suited up as a Boston Celtic opening night at the TD Garden.
