All the odds you need for the 2010-2011 Boston Celtics
| Written by: bpaul @ Gino's Jungle

Today I received a pretty cool email from a representitive at Bodog.com highlighting odds and over/unders for the 2010-2011 Boston Celtics. Although I'm not a huge gambler, I figured it'd be cool to pretend I was betting on these categories and give our readers advise if they were to bet on some of these categories.

If you do use my advice and win money don't be afraid to throw me a few bones. If you use my advice and lose, then lets just pretend I never did all of this. Without further ado, lets get it started.

Player Over/Unders

Paul Pierce - 18.3ppg

As much as I love Paul Pierce, take the under on this one. Pierce averaged exactly 18.3ppg last season and with the addition of players able to score you have to expect this number to drop. Not to mention, Pierce's average dropped two points last season from the 2008-2009 season.

Ray Allen - 16.0ppg

I a little bit skeptical about Ray's offensive output this year after what I saw during the preseason but I still don't see Ray's numbers dropping from last season. He didn't have a great season last year and still managed to average 16.3 ppg, I expect him to at least match that this year. Take the over.

Kevin Garnett - 14.3ppg

These guys that make the over/under are damn good at what they do. I expect KG to hover somewhere around the 14ppg mark. He showed during the preseason that he CAN still go for 20+ at times so I'm going to be optimistic and take the over, but not by much.

Rajon Rondo - 13.7ppg, 9.7apg

I'll take the over on the points and the under on the assists. As this team transforms into Rondo's team I think he is going to focus more on scoring the ball. So far his jump shot looks good (when he doesn't have to think about it) so I expect him to score near 15ppg.

As far as the assists go, last year Rondo had a record breaking year and averaged 9.8 assists per game. I can't see him beating that this year. He'll be somewhere in the high 8's-low 9's. If he does happen to top that 9.7 mark, it would be worth losing a few bucks.

Jermaine O'Neal - 11.5ppg, 5.8rpg

It's hard to tell how JO's offensive skills will work in the Celtics system due to him missing a large amount of time duing the preseason. Due to his lack of time in the system I think he will struggle scoring the ball to start the year and for that reason he'll score under 11.5ppg.

Until the return of Kendrick Perkins in January, Jermaine O'Neal will HAVE to rebound the basketball on the regular. Coming off the bench and splitting time with Shaq I think he can average near six rebounds a game. Take the over.

Shaquille O'Neal - 11.0ppg, 6rpg

Over and Over. I don't know why but I sense a big year out of Shaq this year. He's going to need to score and rebound during the first half of the year and I think he will. I expect around 12 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Shaq.

Randoms

Will Doc Rivers be the coach of the Celtics to start the 2011-2012 season?

Yes (-145)

No (+115)

As long as their is no lockout I think Doc will be back and it's a safe bet to take the "Yes" at -145. A large majority of the players that signed this offseason agreed to at least a two-year deal. Ray Allen, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kevin Garnett are all with the team until the end of the 2011-2012 season. As long as these guys still believe they can win, Doc will stay.

Odds

NBA 2010/11 - Boston Celtics - Exact Season Result

NBA Champions 17/2 (+850)

Celtics Lose in Title Game 13/2 (+650)

Celtics Lose in Eastern Conference Finals 15/4 (+375)

Celtics Lose in Eastern Conference Semi Finals 9/4 (+225)

Celtics Lose in Eastern Conference Quarter Finals 9/4 (+225)

Celtics Eliminated in Regular Season 9/1 (+900)

These are all way too high. BoDog might regret giving the Celtics +650 just to repeat their performance from last season. By the way, how are the chances the Celtics lose in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals and Eastern Conference Quarter Finals the same? We're talking about a matchup against a team like the Knicks compared to a matchup against a team like Orlando. Doesn't make sense to me. Oh, and if you want to lose some money, take a gamble and bet the Celtics to not make the playoffs at +900.
