Alex Silvestro, the undrafted linebacker out of Rutgers will be joining former teammate Devin McCourty on the New England Patriots.
The Patriots, after the lockout was concluded, have picked up many undrafted free agents to help their team.
The main thing about the 6'3" outside linebacker is that he is a very good pass rusher, which is a big need for the Patriots. Silvestro ran only a 4.83 40 yard dash at his Pro Day in March, but was able to record 5.5 sacks in his senior season last season.
He totaled up 154 tackles (35.5 for loss) with 10 sacks as a three year starter in 49 games.
Silvestro won the Brooks Irvine Club of South Jersey Division I College Football Player of the Year Award in his senior season last season.
He was also named the 2010 Rutgers Defensive Most Valuable Player.
Many Scarlett Knight fans were disappointed that cornerback Joe Lefeged wasn't drafted. He has yet to sign, allowing Silvestro to be the first senior to sign with a team from Rutgers this season.
Silvestro will most likely be competing for a practice squad spot, and not make the roster, but there is always that chance.
In the next couple of the days, Joe Lefeged will be on an NFL team as he is said to be in the top 5 undrafted free agents this season. He was projected to go to a team in the 4th round by many analysts.
Rutgers have had many prospects make the NFL in the last few years, which really proves how the Rutgers football program is improving.
Anyway, Silvestro deserves to be in the NFL with all his hard work. He is a competitor and wants to win, just what the Patriots like out of their players.
Congratulations Silvestro!
