It's rare when you see a player outside the Top-50 make noise at a major. Of course, there was Guga Kuerten, who in 1997, ranked a lowly-No. 66, came through to win his first French Open. And then, of course, there was Vince Spadea, ranked No. 44 (which is close to 50), beating the No 6-ranked Andre Agassi in the 1999 Aussie O, making the quarters.
