#23 Florida Gators Stun #11 Kentucky Wildcats 70-68
The University of Florida solidified its number one position in the SEC East with a win over #11 Kentucky.
Chandler Parsons, the gatorraid.com MVP of the game, went 60% for field goals and 50% for 3-pointers and free throws for a total of 17 points. He finished the night with a double-double with 12 rebounds.
However, without Parsons the Gators faired rather disappointingly. Taking out Parsons stats, the Gators shot for 39.5% and only 26.7% for 3-pointers. In fact, the only thing that appears to have saved the Gators was their three point shooting where they shot for 81.8% on the line. If Florida had played the way they have been the rest of the season, 64.9%, they would have scored only 14 points instead of the 18 points they gained off free throws. Hence, the Gators would have ended with 66 points instead of 70 and lost the game.
The Disappointing Player of the Game Award goes to Erving Walker, who only made 1-9 of his field goals and 1-6 of his 3-points. The only reason he ended with 9 points is because he made all 6 of his free throws. Backup Guard, Scottie Wilbekin, essentially ended with the same stats as Walker with only 15 minutes of game play, as opposed to Walker's 31 minutes.
With only 7 games left, and with all of them beatable, there is little chance that Florida will drop out of leading position of the East. Therefore, despite the Gators disappointing play, the night is still theirs.
